Preschool Boost/
Flying Start Program

Kid Sense is an approved provider on South Australia’s Preschool Boost Menu providing Speech and Occupational therapy to minimize developmental vulnerabilities through evidence informed group programs, educator coaching, family workshops and leadership mentoring directly in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings. Our pervasive goal is to ‘infuse therapeutic fun’ into educator knowledge, parent confidence and centre resources, and programming for ongoing benefit after Kid Sense service cessation.

Program specifics

AEDC domains supported by Occupational Therapy include emotional maturity, physical health and wellbeing, social competence, and by Speech Pathology include language and cognitive skills, communication skills and general knowledge. Given our ’whole child’ approach there is a significant overlap over between Speech and Occupational Therapy goals and domains of focus because functional skill improvement lies at the heart of our intervention at all levels.

Metro. service can be provided via a hybrid of onsite and online, and remote locations be provided online with an emphasis on educator and leadership coaching (to support direct local student care) and parent training.

Services Offered

Across all AECD domains we prioritise practical strategies that build educator and family confidence to support children independently and sustainably to maximize developmental maturity, along with leadership knowledge to plan, resource and deliver programs. The outcomes can include:

  • Measurable improvements (reduced developmental vulnerability)
  • Increased educator confidence to identify and respond to needs—shifting practice from “behaviour labelling” to self initiated targeted skill development (understanding and knowledge of how to support skill development)
  • Stronger home–centre alignment through family workshops that reinforce classroom strategies and confidence in supporting skill development
  • Expanded Leadership curriculum programming to support target skills, and/or resource collation to acts as skill development or management supports.
  • Site‑specific Resource Collation enabling centres to sustain gains after Kid Sense service ceases, and support children’s self initiated, developmentally-nurturing play activities (without educators active involvement) (eg library of ‘take home’ packs)
  • Baseline and follow‑up group-level measures (eg motor participation checklist, classroom engagement scale, educator and parent confidence survey) for reporting purposes
Developmental vulnerabilities nurtured by our experienced therapists under the program include:
