As a parent, there is nothing more worrying than your child struggling in day to day life. Unfortunately, children living with a developmental challenge experience unnecessary hardship – whether it be a speech and language disorder causing trouble understanding and communicating, awkward physical skills (fine and gross motor skills) that makes completing every day tasks difficult or other developmental challenges.
At Kid Sense, our team of professional health practitioners are here to help. Our team understand how distressing and concerning this can be for parents and know how to help eradicate or minimize developmental challenges to help your child and your family live life to the fullest.
At Kid Sense Unley, we provide Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy services for children from birth to 18 years (and beyond). Through these specialized services, we can help children overcome ‘life’s little challenges’. We are helping them improve in areas of movement, play, feeding, speech-language, learning, attention and behaviour.
Each Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist has a private room that is fully resourced with fun toys and activities that can engage even the most reticent child. Every Occupational Therapist has their own suspension (sensory) equipment to ensure that each session is fun and engaging! Swings, balls and mini trampolines lend as much fun to Occupational Therapy as toys, and games do to Speech Therapy.
Servicing the Eastern Suburbs of Adelaide predominately, we can provide children in child care, kindergarten and primary and high school with our professional Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy services. Our services can be accessed under Medicare Plans, NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and privately.
Kid Sense Unley Offers Parent and Child-Friendly Facilities!
We know that for both parents and children attending therapy appointments can be wearing at times. Still, we firmly believe that the amazing facilities and resources we provide are the best quality of care possible.
Our clinic is located along Unley Road opposite Bridgestone Tires (look for the “B” sign) and very close to the Conservatory Garden Centre. We are easily spotted along Unley Road by the large blue wall with a big yellow sun when heading towards the city.
On site Car parking is most readily available behind the centre, off Irwin lane.
At Kid Sense Unley, we make centre-based appointments easy and enjoyable by offering:
- Free onsite parking
- Café’s within an easy walk
- Playground nearby
- Grocery store nearby
- Comfortable and well-resourced waiting room with children’s play items and parent magazines (during non-COVID times).
We believe that our centre based Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy services allow us to offer a best quality of care with a community focus. Our centre-based appointments allow your child to develop the skills needed for real life. Our team can also then set up the necessary supports for those skills to be transferred into the ‘real world’ to set the child up for success in life.
Physical attendance at an appointment means you can see up close and personal what the Speech and Occupational Therapy intervention look like, as well as providing you with the resources you need to implement these same techniques at home! We highly value parents and teachers as part of a child’s therapy team. The more feedback and management strategies we share as a team, supporting the child, the more progress all involved parties will see and benefit from.
Because we recognize that parents are often overcommitted, we provide written home recommendations ideas or activities after each appointment wherever possible to jog the memory of helpful things to do at home. These can then be emailed to other involved parties (e.g. teachers) if so requested. Home activities are an excellent way to help in the journey to help your child’s developmental challenges.
Clients seeking both Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy sessions can chose to attend these sessions individually or can choose to do both appointments back to back.
We recognize that sometimes’ life happens’ and attending an appointment can prove difficult. This might be just one of the times that you choose to use Teletherapy. You might also use them when you are sick and chose to remain at home, when travel is impossible or for other family members who don’t usually attend (eg Grandma) to be part of a therapy appointment.
