Tele-therapy can be a great way for your child to access therapy where they can be in a familiar environment and they can be in control, thus allowing more engagement in the therapy process. Sparing children the travel can be beneficial for the entire family, and might also allow parents (and other supporters) to be part of the therapy appointment, which they might not be able to for face to face.
The parent receives the link to simply ‘click on’ so they are on screen with the therapist. Emails allows relevant material preparation, where appropriate, and once on-line, the parents involvement in the appointment can be discussed and the appointment content and delivery tailored to the child’s (or parents) needs. Interestingly, some children engage better without their parents present for the bulk of the appointment.
Tele-therapy also allows therapists to use the home environment in therapy without the travel costs incurred of an in-person home visit. Just like face to face appointments, home program recommendations are provided as appropriate.
The Kid Sense teams are determined to support all children with developmental difficulties whether they are Kid Sense clients or not.
Kid Sense is committed to ensuring all children with developmental needs can access at the very least ‘bite-sized’ therapy options in the short term, whilst potentially considering more substantial, long-term therapy.
Living in a rural or remote setting brings many advantages but it is likely that easy access to specialist services such as Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology isn’t one of them.
